Welcome Message

Dear Future Student Midwives,
We’re very much looking forward to welcoming you to the programme and to supporting you as you begin your university journey.

Your experience will start with Induction Week (week commencing 14 September). This is an important and integral part of your course, designed to help you settle in, meet your peers and teaching team, and get a clear understanding of what to expect from your studies. Attendance is a requirement, as the induction week sessions will give you the best possible start.

As you transition into university life, please be reassured that you will be well supported. You will be allocated a personal academic tutor, who will be your first point of contact for academic guidance and general support. Our wider teaching and support teams are also here to ensure you feel confident, supported, and part of the community from the outset.

In your first few weeks, there will be plenty to look forward to. Alongside your initial teaching sessions, you will have opportunities to take part in skills and introductory activities that will give you a real insight into your future profession and help you build connections with your cohort.

Teaching on the course is delivered through a range of engaging and supportive methods to help you develop both knowledge and practical skills. You will attend lead lectures to introduce key concepts and take part in through discussion. Simulation-based learning allows you to rehearse realistic scenarios in a safe environment, building confidence in areas such as communication, clinical decision-making, health promotion, screening, and responding to universal care needs. These approaches are complemented by practice-based learning in clinical placements, where you will apply your learning with women, babies, and families, supported by experienced practitioners.

We also encourage you to make the most of the Students’ Union Fair, which is a good way to meet other students and discover societies, sports clubs, and support services:
• 16th September 2025 – City Centre Campus

These events are a great opportunity to get involved in university life outside of your studies.

We are looking forward to meeting you.

Best wishes,
Laura Clifford

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
