Welcome Message

Welcome to the MA Media Production course at Birmingham City University.

We are pleased you'll be joining us this September, and look forward to welcoming you in person.

BCU has organised Induction Week (w/c 14th September) to help you settle into postgraduate study, meet your tutors and fellow students, and become familiar with the facilities, services, and opportunities available to you. I would also encourage you to visit the Students' Union Fair, where you can meet student societies, support services, and fellow students. The City Centre Campus events take place on 16th and 17th September.

The MA Media Production Team will be available to support you throughout your time at Birmingham City University. Alongside the guidance of our academic staff, your personal tutor, and technical team, you'll have access to our wider student support teams, all of whom are committed to helping you succeed both academically and professionally.

The course has strong industry focus, and in your first few weeks you can look forward to discussions about the current media landscape, introductions to the facilities and production resources available to you – and beginning your own production focused research and practice.

There's no need to buy anything in advance — just bring your curiosity and any questions you'd like answered. All the technical equipment needed to complete coursework will be made available through the university’s existing facilities – although, having your own laptop/tablet device etc. would be helpful for written work and research.

Have a great summer and we look forward to welcoming you in person in September.

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
