Welcome Message

Welcome to the Games Academy!

We’re really excited to have you joining us in September and starting your journey into game development, design, art, technology, production, and everything in between.

The Games Academy is built around creativity, collaboration, experimentation, and industry-style learning. You’ll be making games, testing ideas, solving problems, working with others, learning from mistakes, and building the skills needed to become part of the games industry. Some days will feel exciting, some will feel challenging, and some will feel like your project has become a strange digital creature with too many legs, but that is all part of the process.

You are joining a community of students, staff, developers, artists, designers, programmers, researchers, and industry partners who all care about games and the people who make them. We want you to be curious, brave, supportive, and open to trying new things.

Whether you already know exactly what kind of games you want to make, or you are still figuring out where you fit, this is the place to explore. Ask questions, share ideas, get involved, and make the most of every opportunity.

We can’t wait to see what you create.

Welcome to the Games Academy.

Course Location

Millennium Point

Your course will mainly be taught in:

Millennium Point, City Centre Campus (Room numbers start with MP)

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
