Welcome Message

Welcome to Fashion Business & Promotion - we’re delighted that you’ll be joining us this September and look forward to welcoming you to the course.

Your university journey begins with Induction Week (w/c 14 September), an important and timetabled part of your transition into university life. Induction Week will introduce you to the course and the wider university, while giving you the chance to meet your tutors and fellow students, explore facilities, and begin to feel part of our learning community.

Starting university can feel both exciting and daunting, but you will be fully supported from the outset. You’ll be introduced to your personal tutor, who will be a key point of contact for academic guidance and pastoral support, alongside a wider team of staff dedicated to helping you settle in and succeed.

In your first few weeks, you can look forward to engaging projects that introduce core themes of the course, hands‑on learning activities, and opportunities to explore industry contexts and creative practice. Our teaching combines lectures, workshops, collaborative projects and independent study to help you develop confidence, skills and professional awareness.

We also encourage you to attend the Students’ Union Fairs on 15 September at City South and 16-17 September at City Centre, where you can discover societies, support services and ways to make the most of your time at BCU.

We hope you have a great summer - we look forward to meeting you very soon.

Preparing for Welcome Week

Before you arrive on campus, please take a look at your course Moodle page where you will find lots of useful information to prepare you for Welcome Week, including your required pre-arrival activity.

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
