Welcome Message

On behalf of the course team, I would like to welcome you to the BSc Cyber Security course at Birmingham City University.

We are delighted that you have chosen to join us and look forward to supporting you as you begin this exciting journey. Cyber Security is a fast-growing and rewarding field, and over the coming years you will develop the technical, practical and problem-solving skills needed to tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges.

We encourage you to attend Induction Week (w/c 14 September). It is a great opportunity to meet your lecturers and fellow students, familiarise yourself with the university and learn about the support available to help you settle into university life. You will also be assigned a Personal Tutor who will be there to guide and support you throughout your studies.

In your first semester, you can look forward to hands-on learning, practical lab sessions and exploring the foundations of cyber security and computing. We also recommend visiting the Students’ Union Fairs (15 September at City South and 16–17 September at City Centre) to meet new people and discover the many clubs, societies, and activities available at BCU.

If you have any questions before you arrive, please feel free to get in touch. We look forward to meeting you during Induction Week and welcoming you to the BCU Cyber Security course.

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
