Welcome Message

Welcome to the MSc Artificial Intelligence course at Birmingham City University.

I am pleased to welcome you to the course as you begin your postgraduate studies in this exciting and rapidly evolving field. Induction Week (w/c 14 September) is a key part of your transition into university life, and I strongly encourage full participation in all scheduled activities. During this week, you will meet your academic staff, personal tutors, and fellow students, and gain a comprehensive overview of the course structure, academic expectations, and the support available to you throughout your studies.

During Induction Week, we also organise several events at STEAMhouse, including the BCU Computing Symposium and the Postgraduate Innovation Exhibition (PGXP), where previous MSc AI students showcase their research outcomes and innovative projects. It would be highly beneficial for you to attend these events to gain insight into ongoing research, current industry-relevant applications, and the expectations for postgraduate study.

The MSc AI course is designed to equip you with advanced knowledge and practical skills in areas such as machine learning, deep learning, data science, and intelligent systems. Your learning will be supported through a combination of lectures, labs, and project-based activities that reflect real-world challenges and industry practice.

You are also encouraged to engage with the Students’ Union Fairs (15–17 September across City South and City Centre campuses), which provide an excellent opportunity to explore extracurricular activities and enhance your university experience.

We look forward to welcoming you and supporting you throughout your MSc journey.

Kind regards,

Faisal Saeed

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
