Welcome Message

Welcome to Art and Design Foundation at Birmingham City University. We are delighted that you will be joining us this year and can't wait to meet you!

Your university journey begins with Induction Week (w/c 14 September), which is an important part of settling into life at BCU. Please join us on Monday 14 September at 10am in Room G.05, Ground Floor, Margaret Street Campus (School of Art, Margaret Street, B3 3BX). This will be a great opportunity to meet your tutors and fellow students, learn more about the course, and start feeling part of our creative community.

As you settle into university life, you'll have access to a range of support services, including your personal tutor, student support teams, and specialist disability support where needed. We are here to help you succeed both academically and personally.

In your first few weeks, you can look forward to exciting projects that introduce the fundamentals of art and design through playful, interdisciplinary learning, collaborative activities, and hands-on technical workshops. You'll also have opportunities to explore Birmingham's vibrant creative scene through visits to local exhibitions and cultural venues.

Don't forget to visit the Students' Union Fairs on 16–17 September at Curzon Building, where you can discover clubs, societies, and activities across the university.

We look forward to welcoming you and seeing your creativity flourish at BCU!

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
