Welcome Message

Welcome to the BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology course at Birmingham City University.

This CIAT and CIOB accredited course introduces you to the full process of architectural technology, from concept design through to technical development, digital modelling, and construction delivery. You will explore how design, technology, sustainability, and construction come together to create innovative and practical solutions for the built environment.

A key strength of studying with us is our strong industry connections and our location in the heart of Birmingham’s ongoing city regeneration. From your first year, you will engage with live, real-world projects in collaboration with industry partners, helping you to develop a professional understanding of practice from the very beginning of your studies.

Our course is delivered through a studio-based learning approach. Each semester, you will undertake a dedicated studio project, and the knowledge and skills you gain in your other modules will directly support and inform your design work. This integrated approach helps you to connect concept design, technical development, and digital skills in a meaningful and applied way.

Your learning journey will develop progressively across the course. In your first year, you will build core skills in concept design, technical understanding, and digital tools, including industry-standard software such as CAD and BIM. In your second year, you will develop more complex design integration, construction systems, collaborative project work, and explore emerging digital technologies shaping the future of the built environment. In your final year, you will focus on advanced technical development and project delivery, culminating in a professional portfolio that reflects your individual approach to architectural technology.

Learning is hands-on and practice-focused, supported by, live projects, inudstry check-ins, site visits, workshops, and guest lectures from professionals actively shaping the built environment. You will use industry-standard digital tools throughout your studies to develop and communicate your ideas.

We are here to support you throughout your journey and look forward to helping you develop into confident, creative, and technically skilled professionals ready for the industry.

We look forward to welcoming you at induction.
