Damian is currently a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Birmingham City University. His research interests are focused on exploring the public positioning of Muslim interests in British contexts. In particular, his research has focused on the ways that public debates around nationhood and national identity impact on Muslim communities through the regulating, controlling and policing of Muslim mobilisations.

Prior to his role as Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Birmingham City University, Damian was a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and School Head of Research at De Montfort University. He was also previously a Lecturer in Education at Keele University. His PhD was funded through an ESRC +3 award studentship at the Warwick Religions and Education Research Unit, University of Warwick.
