Jazz and Everyday Aesthetics to hold Edinburgh event

The Jazz and Everyday Aesthetics research network are to stage a concert on Thursday 11 May at the University of Edinburgh, featuring three prominent musicians and educators.

The performance, taking place at Reid Concert Hall, will feature Norwegian-born, Edinburgh-based guitarist, composer and educator Haftor Medbøe. With his group, Haftor has recorded five albums and performed live to international acclaim since forming his band in 2006. Alongside him will be Pete Furniss, a clarinettist and improviser with over 25 years' experience across a multitude of genres, including orchestral, chamber, contemporary and mixed electronic music, as well as both idiomatic and free improvisation. Completing the line-up is drummer, composer and bandleader Tom Bancroft.

The event is part of Jazz and Everyday Aesthetics, a two-year research network project that explores the everyday value of jazz and the aesthetic experiences associated with it. The event is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and led by researchers from Birmingham City University and Warwick University. It is supported by the University of Edinburgh.
