Helen Davis

Helen is part of the Future Nurse Programme team as MSci Nursing course which runs alongside the BSc Nursing and Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice courses.

Helen qualified as a nurse from the University of Birmingham in 2011 with a 1:1 and began her career at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the Haematology/Oncology unit.

In 2013 she moved back to Birmingham and secured a staff nurse post at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital staying within the Haematology Oncology speciality. During the 5 years at BWCH she progressed to a junior sister role and most recently clinical educator. During the last year of being a Clinical Educator she led the team to be Finalists at the ‘Student Nurse Times Award Placement of the Year: Hospital’. On a personal level she was awarded ‘Trust nominated Practice Award’ at the BCU Health and Social Care Awards 2018.

Helen was awarded as ‘Highly Commended’ for Supportive Staff member at the 2021 ‘I AM BCU’ awards and is a 2022 finalist at the Zenith Global Health awards.

Helen has been at Birmingham City University since January 2019 and teaches across the curriculum to all 3 years of the undergraduate nursing course. She has been Academic Assessor for the Postgraduate Paediatric Oncology Modules ran at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Helen has experience in line managing the Assistant Lecturers within the Children and Young Peoples Nursing Team. Before becoming MSci Nursing course leader, Helen was the deputy course lead for the Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice course.

Helen is continuing her own education development by undertaking a Masters in HealthCare Practice. Her keen interest in the use of social media within nursing and pre-registration nursing and Social Media is the basis of her Dissertation.
