A group of high-flying police officers have been recognised by the University that kick-started their career.
All 17 are current and retired senor officers and are all graduates from Birmingham City University.
All have gone on to progress to senior ranks within police forces and criminal investigation agencies from across the country, including the West Midlands Police and the Home Office. T
hey received certificates of recognition from Professor Roger Woods, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences at the recent ceremony.
The presentation was part of a murder investigation seminar in which Chris Stevenson - the senior investigating officer from the high-profile Soham murder case - addressed detectives from across the Midlands, together with students from the BSc (Hons) Criminal Investigation degree at Birmingham City University.
Nick Howe, Senior Lecturer in Criminal Investigation at Birmingham City University said: “We are delighted to recognise the success of our former students, all of whom have gone on to very successful careers. It was particularly fitting for the presentation to take part in the final of four seminars in the murder investigation series which has examined some of the most significant and high-profile murders the country has witnessed with in-depth presentations from the senior police investigators involved.
“These seminars have reinforced the University’s commitment to studying and researching criminal investigation. We continually aspire to be a centre of excellence in this field and the lecture series is evidence of our ambition and it is great that we have secured such high profile speakers.” The University congratulated the senior officers on their career success and for their loyal and dedicated commitment to public service. Each received a framed certificate and a decorative pin-badge designed by the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre, part of Birmingham City University.
