The issues affecting counter-terrorism efforts and the re-integration of extremists into society are just some of the topics up for discussion at an international conference in Birmingham next month.
Leading researchers from across the globe will gather at Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus on September 10-11, for the Society for Terrorism Research 9th annual international conference.
In a series of talks and workshops, researchers and counter-terrorism experts will highlight ongoing research in terrorism and counter-terrorism; sharing their ideas and approaches to assessing terrorist incidents and the issues faced in counteracting modern-day terrorism.
Key speakers at the event include Tore Bjørgo, Professor of Police Science at the Norwegian Police University College and John Morrison, senior lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of East London.
John Bahadur Lamb, Lecturer in Criminology at Birmingham City University, said: “Hosting the Society for Terrorism Research annual conference is a privilege for BCU and reflects the growing impact that BCU staff are having in the field of terrorism studies.
“The conference will see academics, experts and practitioners from around the world gather at BCU's brand new city centre campus to discuss the contemporary and contentious issues in the study of terrorism. As such, it represents a fantastic opportunity for knowledge transfer from the delegates to the university, the City of Birmingham and the West Midlands as a whole.”
