Birmingham zombie walk 2016

Students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery have roamed the streets of Birmingham dressed as zombies to raise money for charity.

Children’s nursing students, Ellie Farley and Payal Dattani took part in a Zombie Walk on 18 June to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH).

The event began with a lunchtime make-up party to create and enhance the ghoulish and scary zombies, followed by the afternoon walk which started in Victoria Square and continued through the streets of the city centre, where masses of zombies were seen roaming the streets looking for brains to eat!

The event has been running for years, and our students were inspired to take part. Having both experienced working at the hospital during their placements, Ellie said:

Both students have also experienced what the hospital does though personal experiences with family and friends over the years, and wanted to use this opportunity to say thank you for all the care and support they and loved ones have received.

They enjoyed the event immensely, and Ellie’s highlight was surprising unsuspecting members of the public, both on the streets and on public transport! “It was lovely to be able to bring some laughter to the crowds and spread some joy!” When they were asked what they were doing, the response was great “I told them it was for Birmingham Children's Hospital and they were delighted saying that we were doing a wonderful thing for such a brilliant hospital.”

Ellie and Payal are already planning to get involved again next year, so why not join them?
