Birmingham City University students are to team up with the Screenwriters’ Forum this week at a free event which will demonstrate the recording of a television drama as part of Capital Theatre Festival.

Capital is an independent theatre festival designed to showcase the work of writers and theatre-makers in the West Midlands, which this year runs from 24 May - 27 May.

Students from the University’s School of Media will be filming short dramatic scripts, demonstrating how different directing and acting styles can shape the way that television drama scenes look and feel, whilst students from Birmingham School of Acting will be performing the scripts. Vanessa Jackson, Degree Leader in Television at Birmingham City University, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in collaborations with the Screenwriters’ Forum and the Capital Theatre Festival. We hope that many people will come along to see the students at work.

“This kind of project helps to develop new talent in Birmingham and is tremendously beneficial for both the Birmingham School of Media and Birmingham School of Acting students at the University.”

Scripts being performed have been written by the Screenwriters’ Forum, who help regional screenwriters succeed by organising professional development opportunities, sharing industry knowledge and improving networking with other regional film-makers.

The recording event takes place at the Midlands Art Centre in Edgbaston, Birmingham, between 1pm and 4pm on Thursday 24 May. For more information, visit www.capitalplays.co.uk.
