University sets out to retain local talent

A specialist jobs fair organised by Birmingham City University will take place in the city this month, with a key focus on nurturing and retaining talent in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Made Me Job Fairtaking place between 6-9 May at Millennium Point, aims to showcase the vast range and quantity of local opportunities available to job seekers. Employers, careers advisors and key note speakers will be on hand to showcase the city’s strong offering to graduates and young people in regards to future employment.

The programme of events includes sessions on working with business data, developing business and accountancy skills, networking with professionals, a graduate jobs fair and a young people jobs fair. All events and workshops will be free and open to everyone.

The fair will launch with the ‘Designing HS2 Curzon for Birmingham’ seminar, with key note speakers Sir Albert Bore - Leader of Birmingham City Council, Waheed Nazir - Director of Planning and Regeneration at Birmingham City Council and Professor Kathryn Moore -  Professor of Landscape Architecture at Birmingham City University.

A ‘Science Magic Show’ will take place on Wednesday 7 May at Millennium Point, where award-winning magician, comedian, science and maths communicator Dr Matt Pritchard will ‘inspire, inform and captivate’ audiences through his unique way of sharing knowledge.

In parallel with the activity going on at Millennium Point, a full-day workshop ‘Hacking the Future’ will take place every day, from 6-9 May, at The Library of Birmingham. This workshop will encourage the public to collaborate on ideas with students and businesses and test new and exciting ideas that will help to ‘make our lives better.’

The Birmingham Made Me Job Fair is a new addition to the annual Birmingham Made Me EXPO. Now in its third year, Birmingham Made Me is an annual celebration of the design-led manufacturing capabilities and achievements originating in the region.

The Birmingham Made Me EXPO, taking place from 27-31 October, will focus on innovation and design excellence in the Midlands supply chains; shining a light onto transport, education, healthcare, engineering, renewables, digital and new media.
