Students at Birmingham School of Media will showcase their final year projects at Birmingham’s Custard Factory next week, with one student being presented with a special award from Brian Travers of UB40.

The ‘Exhibit This’ exhibition on 28 - 29 May will see students showcasing projects in television, radio, photography, journalism, music industries, event and exhibition industries, public relations and new media.

Since 2010, the Brian Travers Achievement Award has been presented to the final year student who has gained the best overall mark on the Music Industries specialist pathway on the BA (Hons) Media and Communications course at Birmingham School of Media, part of Birmingham City University.

Brian has close links with the University’s School of Media and its research centre, the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research, working with them on projects including the Birmingham Music Archive. Brian said: “The ‘new’ music business is alive and well and sounds better than it ever did. Every time I come into contact with the staff and students at Birmingham City University, I leave taking away far more than I bought to the table.”

Projects being presented at ‘Exhibit This’ include a radio documentary about panthers in Hereford, which was recently included in a BBC Radio 4 feature after receiving a commendation from judges of the Charles Parker Prize.

The ‘Exhibit This’ exhibition runs from 6pm until 9pm on Tuesday 28 May and Wednesday 29 May at The Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Birmingham, B9 4AA. For more information, follow @ExhibitThis2013 on Twitter.
