The future of broadcasting - what can we expect?

University News Last updated 20 November 2013

Birmingham City University and Creative Networks are hosting a free event this month exploring developments in broadcast technology and the types of new content we can expect to see from the fast evolving broadcast sector.

Leading the discussion event on Thursday 28 November will be Graham Thomas, who leads the Immersive and Interactive Content team within BBC’s Research & Development department. Graham works with a team of 20 engineers developing next-generation audio and video systems as well as researching ways in which these systems can offer new interactive opportunities for audiences.

Graham will be discussing the latest developments in interactive content as well as highlighting new forms of content that exploit next-generation IP-based delivery, ultra-high-definition video, immersive viewing, 3D audio and games-like content derived from video.

Hosts of the event, Creative Networks, provide a space for innovators to meet, share ideas and shape the future. As well as delivering valuable insights into technology trends and developments, Creative Networks bring together parties involved in screen-based and sound based media in the West Midlands, promoting both successful business development and collaboration.

The event runs from 5.45pm until 8:45pm at Birmingham City University's City Centre Campus. For more information and to book your place, visit Creative Networks' website.

The event follows the Birmingham Music Network and the Birmingham Screen Image Network, taking place from 4pm until 5.45pm.
