20 year-old Milly Rowe was amongst the winners, thanks to her work based upon her father’s passion for motocross.

“I would go to watch him race as a child and I loved to be there!”, said Milly, who hails from Cannock in Staffordshire.

Going head-to-head with leading fashion schools including Royal College of Art and London College of Fashion, Birmingham City University was given the award at a special ceremony held in London.

In a statement, the British Fashion Council said that award winners were chosen for their “ability and potential to make an exceptional contribution to the British fashion industry”.

The British Fashion Council aims to encourage and support young people to access arts education, study at universities and pursue careers in the fashion industry, which employs an estimated 890,000 people.
