A new collection of garden furniture designs created by talented students from Birmingham City University has been unveiled at this year’s SOLEX – summer outdoor living - exhibition in Telford this week.
Third year BA Design Studies students from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), part of Birmingham City University, have collaborated with quality garden furniture and accessories retailer, Hartman UK, to produce a range of summer garden products.
This is Hartman’s first collaboration with students from the University following the launch of their competition last September which aimed to find the next generation of furniture designers.
27-year-old Justine Woolley’s contemporary ‘Tong Lounger’ design has been manufactured and is on display at this year’s show alongside fellow student, 22-year-old Amit Fox’s ‘Twisted’ four-seat table and chairs design.
Paul Facey, Sales Director for Hartman UK, said: “We started the collaboration with Birmingham City University to find new and inspiring furniture designs as well as help to develop student understanding of our sector.
“We were truly inspired by what the students came up with and it’s rewarding to see two of the designs become part of our collection for next year. It’s been a tremendous success and we will be working with the University again this coming September.”
