Two architecture graduates from Birmingham City University have been awarded funding from coffee giant Starbucks, for a community design project in rural Staffordshire.

22 year old Dale Hickman and 25 year old Timothy Rushton - who have both recently graduated from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design – applied for the £2,000 grant from Starbucks Youth Action in March in hope of funding a community design project in Stone, Staffordshire.

The project titled ‘Hayes Trail’ will see the development of a woodland walk – creating a safer access route through the local woods and allowing the community to enjoy the area. Dale and Timothy will work alongside second year students on the BA (Hons) Architecture course to complete the project which is expected to take around three weeks.

Dale said, “We are extremely grateful to have been awarded the funds which will enable us to complete the project and make a real difference to the local community. This project follows on from the success of last years ‘Hayes Bridge’ project, where second year architecture students developed a bridge structure to allow easier access to the woodland area for local community groups.”

The Starbucks Youth Action programme aims to inspire young people from across the UK and Ireland to make a difference in their community. Offering funding and supporting young people, encouraging them to develop and bring to life projects which are important to them.
