Birmingham born advertising guru Trevor Beattie will next week give a financial boost to a lucky Birmingham City University student.
Trevor, the advertising mastermind behind the controversial French Connection FCUK and Wonderbra’s Hello Boys campaigns, will give a new scholarship for a second year Visual Communication student at the End of Year Awards night at Birmingham’s Glee Club on June 19th.
Balsall Heath born Trevor was given an honorary doctorate by Birmingham City University in 2011 in recognition of his outstanding achievements in media and advertising.
The bursary will be given by the Jack and Ada Beattie Foundation, set up by Trevor in honour of his parents and aims to provide grants to both organisations and individuals. It is the first bursary of its kind given by BIAD and is to be named in honour of John Lowe, Trevor’s former tutor, who he acknowledged in his Honorary Doctorate acceptance speech.
In 2005 Trevor set up the advertising and PR agency, Beattie McGuinness Bungay, which achieved immediate success, being awarded Marketing’s Creative Agency of the Year in 2008 after just 3 years of trading.
Professor Chris O’Neil, executive dean at BIAD said: “Trevor is a true star in his field, having gone on to establish one of the world’s greatest advertising agencies, and we are delighted that Trevor has agreed to support the university in this way.”
Trevor is currently planning a marketing campaign for the launch of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic Spaceline, and as one of the earliest purchasers of a (return) ticket, is looking forward to becoming an astronaut in 2013.
