The Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) believes that stronger leadership is key to responding to the increasing pressures facing the NHS.

Speaking ahead of a Birmingham City University student conference next week (Thursday 25 May), RSM Chief Executive Helen Gordon said:

Ms Gordon is one of several keynote speakers who will attend Birmingham City University’s High Achievers Recognition Scheme (HARS) Conference. The scheme aims to provide additional learning opportunities to high achieving students. Ms Gordon will share with students her own experiences, from beginning her career as a nurse to heading up one of the largest providers of continuing medical education in the UK.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Juliette Gaunt, Academic Lead for the High Achievers Scheme said: “I'm very much looking forward to the first HARS conference which we are running for all HARS students in the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.

“This conference sees the keynote being provided by Helen Gordon, Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Medicine which is a fabulous opportunity for students and staff. She will talk about leadership alongside skills, vital for the future practitioner. The scheme is about to graduate its first alumni who will have been with us for two years; this is a fitting time to highlight the great work of the scheme for the students and to launch various initiatives for the scheme and for our alumni which will continue to position them to be their best and strive for their best.”
