One of the UK's leading criminologists will be heading a discussion about British serial killers when Birmingham City University throws open its doors to visitors this week for its Open Days on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October from 10.00am until 4.00pm.
The Open Days will take place across the University and visitors should attend the campus most appropriate for the subject in which they are interested.
Professor David Wilson will be giving potential students a taster session of the academic theory of the phenomenon of serial killing. Would-be students who attend this session at the University's City North Campus will be able to find out about David's work which includes studying, interviewing and analysing a number of serial killers.
As well as learning about criminology, potential students will also be able to find out about the University's wide range of full and part-time courses including foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional qualifications.
Those who attend on either day will be able find out what Birmingham City University has to offer as well as take part in campus tours and a tour of the city.
Lyn Holder, Head of Outreach and Enquiry Management, said: "Our Open Days are a great way for potential students to gain an understanding of what we do at the University, they are also a good opportunity for those local students who don't want to go further afield to study to see what we have to offer.
"Often, people don't realise what is under their nose, therefore potential students from Birmingham and the surrounding areas may not appreciate what we have to offer, so our staff and students are looking forward to letting people know what the University is all about."
At the heart of the Open Days will be a wide range of activities, exhibitions and presentations giving visitors the chance to meet staff and students. Potential students will also have the opportunity to find out more about the University and learn about the extensive range of courses.
Guided tours of the campuses will show off Birmingham City University's facilities and on-site student accommodation. Visitors are recommended to check the programme to ensure they attend the most appropriate campus for their chosen subject. There will also be the option to take a whirlwind coach tour around Birmingham.
Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) will also throw open the doors to its campus at Gosta Green, at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, at the Department of Art and at the Bournville Centre for Visual Arts.
The Faculty of Technology, Environment and Engineering, based at Millennium Point, will also be open showcasing their state of the art facilities; as will the campus at Edgbaston, where a number of health courses are based, allowing visitors to see the hi-tech equipment available for use for students.
