Birmingham City University is to honour the local man behind Peaky Blinders, the hit TV show about the notorious Birmingham-based criminal gang.
Award-winning writer and director Steven Knight, raised in the city, will receive an Honorary Doctorate next week in recognition of his achievements in the creative industries.
Knight has had four novels published and co-created the TV gameshow Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? which has won awards around the globe.
The Brummie filmmaker’s first screenplay, Dirty Pretty Things, premiered at the 2002 Venice Film Festival and received several award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay at the 2004 Academy Awards.
"I am deeply honoured and thrilled to be receiving this award from Birmingham City University”, said Knight.
More recently, Steven Knight wrote and directed the British drama film and box office hit Locke, starring Tom Hardy.
Knight is also the creator, executive producer and writer on the BBC TV drama series Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murpy and Helen McCrory. Series 3 begins production later this year.
Steven Knight’s award ceremony takes place on the afternoon of Friday 4 September at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. His award will be presented alongside students graduating from the University’s Faculty of Arts, Design and Media.
