Responding to a growing shortage of digital skills in the UK, Birmingham City University is offering a fast-track two-year degree for aspiring games developers.
The new Interactive Entertainment course condenses a full-time degree into just two years, led by course tutors experienced in working with global brands including Samsung, Louis Vuitton and Crytek.
A report last month published by the UK Digital Skills Taskforce suggested the need for an additional 745,000 people with digital skills to meet the demand by 2017.
“Students on our two-year Interactive Entertainment degree can expect to undertake a range of high level learning – for instance, designing art assets for video games, working on computer coding, or preparing social media and digital marketing campaigns," said Interactive Entertainment programme director Zuby Ahmed.
“When we speak to our partners in the gaming and digital industries, they constantly stress the need for graduates to have real experience in their specialism, working collaboratively alongside people with different skillsets,” which is exactly what we give our students, Mr Ahmed added.
