Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt MP praised the “brilliant” media provision at the University during the launch of a national road show to promote the Government’s ambitious vision for local TV. With a 93 per cent result for student satisfaction in the latest National Student Survey (NSS), it seems that Birmingham School of Media's students agree!

Speaking on the launch of the Local TV Summit Mr Hunt commented: “This is the right place to launch this programme of events. The media courses at Birmingham City University are brilliant, as is the University’s commitment to supporting the development of this crucial sector.”

Mr Hunt’s comments come hot on the heels of the results from the National Student Survey 2011 which revealed that 93% of final year media students were satisfied with their course, making Birmingham City University joint third in the country and the highest rated Skillset Media Academy in the ‘media studies’ category.

Joining Mr Hunt and a panel of experts, Philip Thickett, Head of the University’s Birmingham School of Media, said the University was producing talented graduates for the industry and that he was pleased with the community spirit of creativity and enterprise within Birmingham School of Media.

Work is now starting on phase one of a new City Centre Campus to house a media hub potentially featuring the “biggest studio facilities between London and Salford”.
