Law courses still available at Birmingham City University

University News Last updated 18 August 2011

As this year’s A Level results are released today (Thursday 18th August), Birmingham City University has announced it still has a limited number of places on its LLB Law degrees, starting this September.

Enrolling students could soon be following in the footsteps of a Birmingham City University high-flying Law Student who joined the University through Clearing and has recently secured a £6000 scholarship to the prestigious Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. Lincoln’s Inn is one of the UK’s four Inns of Court who play a fundamental role in preparing students for call to the Bar.

27 year old Birmingham-born Siobhan Freeman brushed aside the hype of studying away from home and although acknowledging that having a young daughter was a major factor for her when she was choosing where to study; she encourages locals to consider choosing their local university.

Siobhan said: “Two years ago I was a young single mum from Birmingham with no idea what the future held. This just proves that you don’t have to move away for university just for the sake of it, if the university is right for you that should be the deciding factor.”

Prof. Fiona Church, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences, is urging students to consider studying Law at Birmingham City University. She said: “This year competition for places at university is expected to be tougher than ever as young people attempt to find places before the tuition fees increase in 2012. Our School of Law has been at the forefront of innovative law teaching for more than 40 years and we have an outstanding graduate employability record with 93% of 2009 graduates securing a job or further study. LLB students have the opportunity to work in the offices of local Citizens Advice Bureaux or other legal service providers, handling real legal cases under supervision and have the opportunity to do this in America as well as the UK. Excellent facilities await our students, including two replica court rooms and a virtual solicitor’s office to give students the opportunity to experience real-world situations as part of their studies.”

Birmingham City University will open its ‘Clearing’ hotline at 8am on Thursday 18th August, for anyone who has not gained the A Level grades needed for their chosen courses. The University will have a dedicated team of advisers available to help prospective students who have just missed out on the grades needed for their initial choice of institution. It may not be too late to get a place on the degree you want to study.

The Clearing hotline number is 0121 331 6777 and prospective students are advised to visit the UCAS website and university website www.bcu.ac.uk/student-info/how-to-apply/clearing/overview to find out what is available in Clearing, and to ensure that they have enough points to get onto the course of their choice.
