Author, activist and Member of Parliament Jess Phillips will be joining Birmingham City University this week for an exclusive talk to discuss her life and career to date.
The Yardley MP will visit the University on Thursday 7 November to take part in a special event titled ‘In Conversation with Jess Phillips’.
During the talk, Jess will discuss her experience of growing up in Birmingham, her path into politics, and how she deals with online trolls.
Ms Phillips, who has served as the parliamentary representative for Yardley since 2015, has earned a reputation as a straight-talking modern feminist, tackling hard-hitting issues in Parliament.
She will be interviewed in front of a live audience by Diane Kemp, Professor of Broadcast Journalism at Birmingham City University.
Prior to becoming an MP, Ms Phillips committed her life to improving the lives of vulnerable people, and spent five years working for Women’s Aid supporting and defending the rights of women.
The talk forms part of the University’s City Talks series, which welcomes members of the public onto its campuses to see a number of diverse speakers discuss a range of different topics.
