A free to attend night of locally made, animated short films are being screened at Light House, Wolverhampton, on Thursday 13 October 2011, as part of Animation Forum West Midlands’ (animationforumwm.com) ‘Shorts on Walls’.
Arts centre Light House, Wolverhampton, will host the free event which is organised several times a year by Animation Forum West Midlands (AFWM), a non-profit project managed by Birmingham City University.
Shorts on Walls will be screening a wide range of animated short films produced from around the West Midlands region. By doing this, David Allen, Creative Project Manager, says, ‘’experienced and budding animators can network, find opportunities and improve their own craft.’’ The screenings take place in the relaxed environment of the Light House courtyard.
Help the animation industry in the region grow
AFWM encourages animators in the region to share their ideas and find opportunities through networking. ‘’We want to encourage animation graduates and professionals to find and create work in the West Midlands to help the animation industry in the region grow,’’ says David Allen.
Shorts on Walls has been a great success since its first appearance in 2008. The last event, held in Birmingham in March as part of Flatpack Festival, entertained 140 animators and fans, many of them submitting films.
Some of the best animations from past events have being screened on the BBC Big Screens in Birmingham and Coventry city centres. ‘’We run masterclasses, contests and screening events throughout the year, and have helped many students and graduate animators integrate into the professional animation world,’’ says David, ‘’either by helping them find work or setting up their own business.’’
The event will be held at the Light House courtyard, Wolverhampton, at 7:30pm on Thursday 13 October.
