First chance to access BCU’s stunning new campus building

Visitors to Birmingham City University’s Open Day this Saturday (15 June) will have the chance to be the first members of the public to get a sneak preview of the University’s new landmark multi-million pound campus facilities.

The Parkside Building - part of the University’s flagship city centre campus - promises to be one of the most exciting and dynamic learning experiences in the whole UK university sector.

The impressive Parkside Building brings together the University’s world-class design and media provision to a form a creative learning hub featuring industry-standard TV and radio studios to create the biggest broadcast centre in any UK university. Visitors will also discover specialist design workshops, performance and exhibition space, plus high quality learning spaces that encourage student interaction.

The new facility is part of an ambitious £180million investment programme and to set to open for business this September – but the first public tours are being held this Saturday.

“Be prepared to be impressed – Parkside offers a very different learning environment to that traditionally offered in the university sector,” said Professor Cliff Allan, Vice-Chancellor at Birmingham City University.

“I would therefore really urge prospective students to come and see for themselves what amazing facilities we have on offer at our new City Centre Campus.”

The Parkside Building forms part of the City Centre Campus and is based within Birmingham’s Eastside learning quarter. It will be the main focus for prospective students attending the open day this Saturday, with visitors being offered a sneak preview of the state-of-the art facilities.

The new building will be a home to provision from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and Birmingham School of Media. The City Centre Campus is already home to Birmingham School of Acting and the Faculty of Technology, Engineering and the Environment (TEE).

In addition, visitors to the City Centre Campus at Millennium Point will also have the opportunity to visit the University-organised Birmingham Made Me Design expo which is showcasing world-beating products designed and made in Birmingham and the Midlands.

The University’s campuses at City North in Perry Barr and City South in Edgbaston will also be open on Saturday, and will showcase the facilities available at each site. The event runs from 9am until 3pm - visit our Open Days page for more information.

At the heart of the Open Day will be a wide range of activities, exhibitions and presentations giving visitors the chance to meet staff and students. Guided tours of campuses will show off Birmingham City University’s facilities and on-site student accommodation.

Those wanting to start their studies in September 2013 are also invited to come along. Lyn Holder, Head of Outreach and Enquiry Management at Birmingham City University, said: “It doesn’t matter if you are completing A-levels, BTECs or any other FE course or even if you have been away from Education for some time. We will happily discuss your options with you at our open day and could make you an offer on the spot.”
