Eastside City Park - Birmingham’s first major city centre park for more than 130 years - will come to life this Bank Holiday Monday with a day of exciting activities including a programme of sporting events.
Hosted by the ‘Friends of Eastside Park’, along with Birmingham City University and Birmingham City Council - the event is free to attend and kicks off at midday on Monday 5 May.
Simon Linford, Chairman of the Friends, said: “Eastside City Park has formed the heart of Eastside, encouraging more people to live, work and enjoy leisure time in the area. It has already contributed significantly to enhancing the image of the city locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are excited to host our bank holiday party – with a whole host of activities to suit everyone – we hope to see many local people and families come along to enjoy the park.”
Eastside City Park opened in 2012 and sits on the doorstep of Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus, acting as a focus for the Curzon Street area of Eastside’s regeneration. Costing almost £12 million, the park has greatly increased the amount of green space within the City Centre, providing a visitor attraction alongside the Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum.
Monday’s event is free to attend and everyone is welcome. A range of activities will be available to take part in, including rounders, Tai-chi, croquet and cycling. Visit Birmingham Made Me for more information.
