Two graduates from Birmingham School of Acting, part of Birmingham City University, are celebrating after being shortlisted for awards in the 14th annual WhatsOnStage Awards.
The Awards, run by the UK’s leading theatre website (www.whatsonstage.com), are the only major UK theatre awards voted for entirely by the ticket-buying public.
Amy Booth-Steel and Iris Roberts, both graduates of Birmingham School of Acting, have been shortlisted in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. Amy has been nominated for her performance in The Light Princess, whilst Iris is nominated for her performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Each year, the Awards shortlists – covering the best of London theatre – are drawn up with the help of thousands of theatregoers who nominate their favourite theatre performers online across over 20 categories.
WhatsOnStage managing and editorial director Terri Paddock said: “It’s been a brilliant year for theatre, from blockbuster musicals to scintillating plays, and we know how passionate the British theatregoing public is.”
Online voting for shortlisted finalists is now open, closing on Friday 31 January. In 2012/13, over 60,000 votes were cast, with leaders in many categories changing daily.
The 2014 Awards ceremony will take place at the Prince of Wales Theatre on Sunday 23 February, with tickets available from www.whatsonstage.com.
