A member of staff at Birmingham City University is celebrating after being awarded a top accolade for her achievements in volunteering from a Jordanian princess.

Nasrin Akhtar, a graduate trainee in Leadership and Management, won The Mosaic Network’s ‘Princess Badiya Mentor of the Year Award’ after impressing HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan and a panel of judges with her volunteering work.

Since 2012 Nasrin has volunteered as a Lead Mentor for the Mosaic Network, part of The Prince's Trust.

The Mosaic Network was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007 and recruits mentors from professional backgrounds to support the delivery of mentoring programmes in schools, that aim to inspire young people from deprived communities to realise their talents and potential.

Alongside studying for undergraduate and postgraduate university degrees, Nasrin’s volunteering work has seen her mentor on 12 programmes at four schools, including Arden Primary School in Sparkhill.

“I am so overwhelmed”, said 25 year-old Nasrin.

The Princess Badiya Mentor of the Year Award recognises individuals who have shown outstanding commitment to Mosaic’s mentoring programmes.
