Media courses at Birmingham School of Media, part of Birmingham City University, have been ranked 8th in the UK in The Guardian’s University Guide for 2013.
For prospective undergraduate students unsure of which subject to study and at which university, league tables revealed by The Guardian on Tuesday 22 May allow them to see where institutions rank in relation to one another and for specific courses of study.
The tables are based on data collected by Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the National Student Survey.
The Guardian University Guide 2013 places Birmingham School of Media eighth in the UK within the classification of Media Studies, Communications and Librarianship, a climb of four places on last year’s position of 12th.
The table illustrates the School received a very high score for student satisfaction with 93% of those questioned stating that they were happy with their course and 90% stating that they were pleased with the teaching they received. The School also scored well for producing graduates going on to secure employment upon completion of their studies.
Head of Birmingham School of Media, Philip Thickett, said: “The School is delighted at its top ten position in the new Guardian league table, particularly as this is to a great extent a reflection of our students’ satisfaction with the course and their on-going success in gaining graduate level employment.
“This demonstrates that the School’s ethos of having a team of staff made up of high quality academic experts and experienced media practitioners is both popular and effective. The School’s position in the table makes it the leading Skillset Media Academy in Great Britain and a national destination for new students wishing to study a degree in Media.”
The University boasts the only Creative Skillset Media Academy in the West Midlands and Birmingham School of Media maintains excellent connections with local and national media providers including the BBC, Sky, Endemol, Maverick Television and Channel 4. A range of courses are on offer at the School, covering all aspects of the media including journalism, photography, music industries, event and exhibition industries, public relations, radio, television, and web and new media.
