A Birmingham feature film receives its international premiere this week after being selected for the Edmonton International Film Festival in Canada.

Starring graduates from Birmingham School of Acting, part of Birmingham City University, ‘Turbulence’ was filmed in Birmingham and Kings Heath and follows the lives of a group of talented youngsters as they chase their dreams.

The comedy film tells the story of a failing music venue and a competition that is launched in a bid for it to survive. Producer of ‘Turbulence’, Natasha Carlish, said: “I am delighted that Turbulence has been selected for Edmonton International Film Festival. As a film with great music, heart and soul I am confident that its comedy will translate well.”

The Edmonton International Film Festival is a nine-day event showcasing the best new independent filmmaking from around the world.
“Edmonton has an excellent reputation for quality and the very warm welcome it gives to filmmakers,” added Natasha.

Stephen Simms, Director of Birmingham School of Acting, said: “Turbulence is a brilliant film made under unique circumstances featuring graduates of Birmingham School of Acting, one of the UK's leading acting conservatoires.

“It’s a funny and touching film which was created over an extended period using improvisation techniques to develop the extraordinary range of characters and plot. BSA is honoured to have been able to support this exciting film adventure.”

The Edmonton International Film Festival runs from 28 September to October 6. For more information, visit www.edmontonfilmfest.com.
