Birmingham City University helps build a healthier community

Birmingham City University is helping build a more active local community by opening the doors to a new multi-million pound sports centre in Perry Barr.

Situated on the former Ansells Sports Club site off Wellhead Lane, the state-of-the-art facility offers an 80-station fitness suite equipped with cutting edge equipment, dance and aerobic studios and a sports hall large enough to accommodate eight badminton courts.  A full-sized all-weather pitch is due to be completed this year, offering additional sporting facilities.

The £7m centre will support all levels of sporting activity and will enable individuals and community groups to enjoy sport and achieve their potential.

Many exciting opportunities now exist for companies, clubs and organisations - and all who are passionate to play a part in creating the sporting stars of tomorrow - to contribute to this development, which will see more people, more active, more often.

Donna Harrison, Assistant Director of Campus Services, said: "This is an exciting development for Birmingham City University and one we are proud to share with the local community. It is part of a wider long-term estates strategy - the University committed to delivering a range of first-class facilities for staff, students and our neighbours in the local area. "

Serco Leisure is the centre's operator.  MD Keith Thomas said: "The City North Sports Centre provides first class sporting facilities for university students and the community alike. We are pleased to work with the university and to engage further with Birmingham City Council and other agencies to encourage and develop community activities at this excellent facility"

This is the second flagship sporting centre to be opened by the University in recent years. The Pavilion, in Moor Lane, already provides the local community, businesses and sports teams with a unique environment for conferences, corporate and social events.

Open 7 days a week, a range of membership options are available. More information about City North Sports Centre.
