Outstanding students who make Birmingham City University their first choice and are on track to achieve excellent results at A-Level or BTEC could be awarded an unconditional offer for 2014.
Following its highly successful undergraduate recruitment in 2013 and in recognition of continuing popularity among prospective students, BCU is looking to streamline the undergraduate application process by making early unconditional offers to students with strong potential and a commitment to enrolling at BCU.
The new scheme will be introduced in time for those students wanting to start their studies at the University from September 2014.

“Birmingham City University remains one of the most popular universities in the UK and we want to make the application process as student-friendly as possible, particularly for those prospective students that have their heart set on coming to our University,” said Kathryn Jones, Director of Marketing and Communications at Birmingham City University.
“Teachers get to know their students and can often predict fairly accurately final year achievement based on past performance and commitment to studying. This knowledge, coupled with the detailed application process, also gives our own tutors a strong sense of a student’s potential as well as their aspirations for Higher Education study and beyond.
“This new initiative is aimed at those applicants who are committed to studying at Birmingham City University and are expected to perform well in their studies. We believe that providing early unconditional offers to this group of applicants will help to alleviate some of the pressure felt by students as they plan their university life, enabling them to develop their relationship with the University earlier and begin to tackle important ‘next steps’, such as applying for and securing student accommodation well before they are due to start their course.”
Kathryn Jones explained unconditional offers will be based on an applicant’s potential and commitment to succeed - as demonstrated by achievement at AS-level and predicted A-level grades. To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must either hold, or be predicted to achieve, 300 tariff points or above from three A-levels, with AS-level grades achieved at BBB or above, or applicants who are predicted DDM profile at BTEC level.
The scheme is only applicable to students interested in certain full-time undergraduate courses and applicants must make Birmingham City University their first choice with the university application service UCAS.
“Those applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria can still come to Birmingham City University but we would probably make a standard conditional offer dependent on their actual exam success. Admissions staff are always on hand to give advice and explain the best options to all applying students,” she added.
