Two second-year BA (Hons) Music Business students from Birmingham City University (BCU) have been selected for the highly competitive Amazon Creative Careers Training Scheme.
The programme supports young people aged 18–25 from across the West Midlands who are aspiring to build careers in the creative industries.
Over an intensive four-week period, Olivia Johnson and Naomi Akers will take part in industry-led workshops and specialist sessions across key areas of the sector, including social media marketing, stagecraft, live event management, and presenting and broadcasting.
The scheme culminates in tailored employability support, including CV development, interview coaching, and opportunities to secure work placements with partner organisations.
“Being selected for the Amazon Creative Careers Training Programme means a great deal to me, both personally and professionally,” said Olivia.
“I always try to apply for every opportunity presented to me within the music industry and this programme seemed too valuable to pass up.
“This opportunity will help shape my future career in the music industry by expanding my professional network and allowing me to gain advice from experienced industry professionals.”
Naomi added: “Knowing that the programme sees potential in me to grow from this opportunity is really encouraging.
“I already work with VIP Nation and at the O2 Institute, so I've seen the front-facing side of live events. I want to learn more about what's happening at a strategic level behind the scenes.
“At BCU, I've been building practical experience through assignments, portfolios, and real events, so I'm coming in with a foundation to build on.
“I'm most looking forward to deepening that knowledge and leaving with experiences that genuinely complement where I'm heading.”
Dr Matt Grimes, Course Co-Director for BA(Hons) Music Business, said: “I'm really thrilled for both Olivia and Naomi to have both been accepted on this prestigious training scheme.
“Both of them have always seen the value of additional skills development and engaged with every opportunity to do so , while studying on the music business course.
“Having two female students accepted further highlights the importance of having more women coming into what is still a male dominated industry.
“Hopefully they continue to redress that imbalance as they move into their graduate careers.”
