Birmingham Light Festival will transform the city into a dazzling open-air gallery again in 2026 – and Birmingham City University (BCU) is proud to announce that it will be backing the spectacular showpiece, which runs from 12-15 February.

Featuring brand new temporary installations by internationally renowned and local artists, the festival will also boast a programme of special events, including night markets, candlelit dining, city runs, and family-friendly experiences.

Professor David Mba, Vice-Chancellor of BCU, said: “The Birmingham Light Festival is a brilliant celebration of creativity and community, so we’re delighted to add our support.

“Festivals like this not only illuminate our streets, they shine a light on Birmingham’s talent.”
Installations will be visible across streets, squares, canals, and other public spaces.

They include ‘Reunion’ by Kumquat Lab, a series of sweeping luminous arches outside New Street Station, brought to life by the support of both BCU and Network Rail.

Professor Mba added: “Supporting cultural events like the Birmingham Light Festival aligns with our vision for BCU as a university deeply embedded in the life of the city.

“We want our students, staff, and local communities to experience Birmingham in new, creative ways, and to feel connected to the city’s vibrancy and innovation.”
