Birmingham City University (BCU) turned heads at this week’s flagship UCAS Discovery event at the NEC, unveiling a life-sized AI-powered hologram to capture attention and connect with the next generation of students.
Standing tall and fully interactive, the hologram welcomed visitors with real-time information about BCU’s courses, student support services, and the application process - all powered by advanced AI technology.
Anne Hill, Assistant Director Student Recruitment at BCU, said: “We wanted to make a bold statement about the future of education. Using a hologram not only grabs attention but also reflects our commitment to embracing technology that enhances the student experience.”
Leah Pemberton, Recruitment Events Manager at BCU, added: “Today’s applicants expect digital-first experiences. The hologram is our way of meeting them on their level, using the kind of technology that is fast-becoming part of their daily lives.”
Leah added: “We also wanted to create a moment that they will remember. If our hologram makes them stop, smile, and start a conversation, we’ve achieved our goal.”
The hologram, made up of three synchronised displays in a vertical configuration, is also a natural extension of BCU’s academic strengths, which include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security.
The UCAS Discovery event is a major fixture in the student recruitment calendar, with attendees able to explore courses, apprenticeships and career paths, all under one roof.
