Architecture students from Birmingham City University teamed up with organisers of Birmingham’s annual Flatpack Festival last month in a bid to transform the festival’s hub at this year’s event.
The annual event - now in its seventh year - takes place in venues throughout Birmingham, and features a whole host of activities, including films, performances, parties and workshops.
Organisers worked with students from the Co.Lab module of the School of Architecture to transform the Old Library at the Custard Factory into an area known as the Flatpack Palais, which formed the hub of this year’s event.
Lecturer at the Birmingham School of Architecture and Co.Lab coordinator Alessandro Columbano said: “Such collaborations between Flatpack and us can bring a positive contribution to the creative industries in Birmingham. The project gave students the opportunity to gain valuable experience with real-life clients working on real-world briefs, where they learn to work to a budget and within other logistical restraints.”
