A pre-eminent panel of serving and former judges from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States are to meet at a Birmingham City University event this month to debate the 21st century challenges of judicial recusal.
Judicial recusal is the principle that judges must disqualify themselves from participating in proceedings if they decide that it is not appropriate for them to hear a case.
A recent series of high profile recusal cases have come before courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States implicitly reprimanding a State Supreme Court Justice for his failure to recuse.
The event at Birmingham City University’s Parkside Building on Friday 26 September will be chaired by Mark George QC with panel members – The Rt Hon Lord Roger Toulson, The Hon Sir Grant Hammond, The Hon Michael Kirby and The Hon Raymond J McKoski.
