Struggling to find the perfect gift this Christmas? A former graduate from Birmingham City University may have the answer with a diamond encrusted pen even Father Christmas would be envious of.
27 year old Jack Row - originally from Nottingham, but now living and working in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, specialises in designing luxury British writing instruments – the ideal Christmas present if you have a cool £27,500 to spare.
Jack takes his inspiration from iconic British architecture with each piece individually hand crafted in solid silver and gold, set with accents of precious sapphires and diamonds.
One of his original designs plays homage to London’s famous ‘Gherkin’ building, with the iconic profile and geometric spirals reflected in the pens elaborate silver and gold filigree.
Prototype made at School of Jewellery
Jack came up with the design prototypes whilst he was a student on the Jewellery and Silversmithing - Design for Industry - BA (Hons) course at the University’s School of Jewellery.
Following the success of his debut ‘Architect’ collection at Harrods, Jack launched his ‘Jaali’ and ‘City’ collections at the annual Goldsmiths Fair in September, taking inspiration for his ‘Jaali’ collection from Islamic art.
Jack said: “My newest collection of luxury fountain pens and cufflinks are intended to be collectable contemporary treasures, each piece being hand crafted in England from solid sterling silver and 18ct gold and set with accents of precious petrol-blue diamonds. Inspiration for the collection is drawn from the geometric patterns of Islamic art, which is translated into the ‘Jaali’ latticed screens, characteristic of Moghul Indian architecture.”
