A third-year Nursing student from Birmingham City University is gearing up for the climb of her life when she takes on Mount Snowdon in Wales, this summer, in a bid to raise vital funds for charity.
Twenty-two-year-old Lizzie Maddocks from Kings Norton, Birmingham, will make the 3,560 foot journey to the top of Mount Snowdon in August in memory of her dad Paul who sadly passed away unexpectedly last August from an undiagnosed pulmonary embolism.
Lizzie will embark on the trek with her 20-year-old sister Charlotte this August – a few days before the first anniversary of their dad’s sudden death.
Lizzie said: “Dad was just 53 years old when he died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism. We decided to trek up Snowdon as dad loved Wales and walking up the mountains while camping there. We always holidayed in Aberdovey, Wales, the beautiful seaside town, and the one place he loved the most. We are raising money for the British Lung Foundation to raise awareness of this type of lung disease and also raise awareness of the charity, as even we were unaware that it existed until dad passed away.”
The sisters are hoping to raise £1,000 for the British Lung Foundation, helping to support the charity with their vital research into new treatments and cures to help save lives, as well as supporting sufferers of lung disease and promoting a greater understanding of the disease.
