A lecturer from Birmingham City University has completed the ride of his life to raise vital funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.

Mark Jukes, Reader in Learning Disabilities at the University’s Faculty of Health, completed a sponsored bike ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End last month. Alongside eight other cyclists, Mark completed the ride in 12 and a half days, averaging between 75 and 97 miles a day.

Mark said, “My background working in Learning Disabilities inspired me to do something for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research as children with Down's syndrome have a higher propensity to the disease. I would like to thank everyone who kindly sponsored me, it was a fantastic challenge and the money raised really will make a difference.”

So far Mark estimates that the team have raised approximately £10,000 for the charity which will go towards life-saving research focused on finding causes and improving diagnosis and treatment for all blood cancer patients.
