Birmingham City Business School is delighted to announce that Gary Holt, Professor of Innovation in Machinery Management within the School’s Centre for Business Innovation and Enterprise, has received a prestigious award at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2011.
The accolade was awarded for his paper on construction business procurement, that was published in the journal Construction Innovation: Information, Process Management. The paper looked at potential value to end-users of academic innovations, relating to contractor selection and achievement of value-for-money by construction business, over the last two decades.
The article was highlighted by a team of eminent academics and managers who were tasked to choose what they felt was the journal’s outstanding paper from the previous year. Professor Holt’s work was selected and described as “the most impressive piece of work the team had seen throughout 2010”.
Professor Holt joined Birmingham City Business School in December 2010. His primary academic focus is machinery management and innovation, especially relating to construction businesses and its supply mechanisms. His research has been published through numerous academic journal and conference papers; several textbooks; industry-facing technical and 'best-practice' guidance documents; and electronic teaching and learning media.
On receiving the award Professor Holt commented, “I am honoured to receive this Literati award. In these times of austerity it is critical that academic research outputs add value to end-users and being located within a research centre that prides itself on strong links with industry and commerce, encourages me to build on this success and take the work forward”.
