The four main award categories are:

  • Fashion, Accessories and Textiles
  • Digital, Visual Comm and Film
  • Product, Architecture and Interiors
  • Fine Art, Photography and Craft

Graduates uploaded their end of year projects and we are delighted to announce that five BCU students have been shortlisted for the 2021 showcase award.

Gertruda Blazaityte a graduate of BA (Hons) Interior Design has been nominated for her wood innovation centre, Forest Hub, which aims to bring researchers, students, businesses, and local residents together to collaborate and share their passion and knowledge to build a healthier and more sustainable urban city. The concept is focused on sustainable and innovative design solutions using Biomimicry.

Luke Reynolds, also graduating from our BA (Hons) Interior Design course, has been nominated for his tiny home intentional community network, Box For Life. The project aims to bring the tiny home movement to cities, and Luke developed the ultimate tiny home to combat the growing economic issue of younger people who struggle to reach for the property ladder. The projects main aim is to increase “Urban Opportunity” for people in tiny homes and attract a new generation of tiny dwellers.

Nontawat Nowarit, a graduate from our MA Design Management programme, has been nominated for his project NEO – X, exploring the challenges and opportunities for Augmented Reality technology in retail to attract customers to come back to bricks-and-mortar stores post-pandemic.

Katy Thompson a BA (Hons) Product and Furniture Design graduate has been nominated for her functional and educational furniture piece, Zewadi, exploring hair-based discrimination and how design can celebrate black, afro, and textured hair. The chair is intended to initiate conversations surrounding this underrepresented issue, using textured black cork and rounded forms to represent black hair.

Katarzyna Kozlowska, also graduating from our BA (Hons) Product and Furniture Design course, has been nominated for her collection of experimental ceramic tableware pieces, Dolcio Tableware. The rounded tableware was developed in response to the scientific analysis of how our experience of food and drink is affected by our senses and surroundings. The plates stimulate the senses through colour, form and texture to create a positive and mindful experience.

An expert panel of judges will announce the chosen artists and designers on the 18 October. We wish Gertruda, Luke, Nontawat, Katy and Katarzyn the best of luck!
