BCU Researcher accepts Committee nomination of the West Midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

Dr Alan Ma, a Lecturer in Law at BCU, has become a committee member of the West Midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). CIArb is a regional hub for practitioners, policymakers, academics, and those in business, supporting the promotion, facilitation, and development of all alternative dispute resolution methods.

Research, pedagogy and networking

Dr Ma has initiated and successfully delivered several joint seminars with CIArb and other learned professional bodies. By being part of the CIArb committee, Dr Ma can increase BCU’s influence in the steering of the branch’s direction and provision of support in preparing aspiring lawyers. This will provide students with the opportunity to network, build connections and contribute to pedagogy through internships, collaborative research projects and joint events.

The International Business Law Research Group at BCU facilitates research and knowledge exchange in domestic and international aspects of business law such as international arbitration, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence. As part of the group and a fellow member of the CIArb, Dr Ma’s practice experience and research interest focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the arbitration process using digital technology.
