Welcome week: Get to know your City South campus

As part of our Welcome Week celebrations, we thought we’d introduce you to your campus, here in the heart of Edgbaston and tell you more about what it has to offer. There’s so many scenic spots here that you will grow to love over the next few years, whether they become a safe haven for revising, or maybe just a spot you can chill out and take your mind off of things for half an hour. There’s a lot on offer here at City South!

Where to eat

We have lots of eateries available at City South, four in fact! If you’re a coffee lover, you’ll be glad to hear that we have both a Costa and a Starbucks on campus to treat yourselves with. But if you’re looking for something a little different, we also have a super cheap (great for students) canteen where all of your classic favourites will be served including teas and coffees. Finally, we have our Social Kitchen, which is a fabulous student hub, serving the tastiest pizzas and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages – all at student prices!

SPACE

SPACE (Skills Practice and Care Enhancement) is a great environment for students to come along and practise the skills that you’ve learnt during your lectures, in a non-pressured space. With state-of-the-art facilities such as articulated skeletons, their Sim Men, Paediatric Hal and a range of brand new utensils to help you practise! Plus, their super friendly technicians are on hand to help with any queries you may have.

Duck pond

Did you know we have a duck pond on-site? Located on the right side of the new-build, the duck pond is a serene and beautiful place to come and relax when the weather’s nice. If you stick around long enough, you might be able to see the ducks come in too!

Table tennis area

Want to forget about your studies for a moment? Why not chill-out and play a fun game of table tennis with your friends! Located on the mezzanine, outside of SCT050. Great for getting in that competitive spirit.

Mary Seacole Library

This state-of-the art facility offers an extensive range of information and reference materials set out in a relaxing environment, conducive to studying. There are comfortable seating areas, group study areas, a silent study area and private study rooms – perfect for getting some alone time if needed!

Ravensbury Estate Gardens

Our campus at City South is split into three buildings, the Seacole building, Ravensbury House and Bevan building. The latter two are only over the road and if you fancy a bit of a wander, the Ravensbury Estate Gardens are a perfect place to go and take a break from your studies.

Botanical Gardens

No, unfortunately we don’t have the Botanical Gardens on-site, however they are only a five minute walk down the road! Speak to our Student Success Advisers who will be able to give you free, or discounted, tickets! The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are a lovely place to check out some of England’s finest greenery. The open spaces and serene environment make it a great place to come and relax, or watch a movie!

What our Student Success Advisers think

Who better to ask about our campus than our Student Success Advisers! Amy Mackenzie says that her favourite spot is:

In the summer my favourite place on campus to visit is the duck pond, it’s a quiet space on campus to go for a break with a coffee and if you’re lucky you will see some ducks arrive for a swim.
